Unemployment is responsible for poaching in prohibited areas

poaching is unemployment the only reason for poaching? How about greed of the well-heeled and the rich? Aren't these the people who instigate the poor folks to poach the big cats, rhinos, elephants etc and make money? So is poaching a poor man's profession? I guess not. Conservationists are up against big-time operators who will stop at nothing to make money even from endangered animals. Your comments would be greatly appreciated.

There was good discussion on “Unemployment is responsible for poaching
in protected areas”. I am listing some of the views here from Open
University.

-Mr. Rakesh said, the high society, who are consumers of the poaching
products should be aware of what they are doing and its harm to
endangered species first.

-One view was about Law enforcement. If strict action is taken, this
activity can be minimized.

-Most of the participants agree that, Unemployment is one of the
causes for poaching in protected areas.

-Mr. Suresh – It’s all about ethics. It’s what that person learns from
his childhood.

At the end all agreed to the following remedies to overcome the
problem of poaching.

·         Unemployment should be minimized.

·         Low enforcement should be strictly done.

·         Awareness of harm caused to endangered species due to
poaching to both levels of society i.e. end user and the tribal.
